Do you have a closet that you’re afraid to open because it’s packed to the brim? Is your basement overwrought with so much junk that you can’t even see the floor? If so, then you know how much stress you feel just by looking at or even thinking about all of that clutter.
Whether it’s because of sentimental value or because you spent your hard-earned cash, it’s hard to get rid of the stuff you own – even if you aren’t using it. But here’s the thing: when those items aren’t being used and you let them accumulate, they don’t add any value to your life. In fact, they do quite the opposite; the guilt you feel and the stress of the mess can detract from your happiness. So why not declutter?
If you’re hesitant to clear out all of that “junk” (for lack of a better term), here’s a look at some significant benefits of decluttering that might compel you to get rid of all the stuff you aren’t using.
You’ll be Able to Concentrate More
It’s hard to concentrate when there’s a lot of stuff surrounding you. Heck, it’s difficult to stay focused even if a pile of junk is sitting behind a closed door. It distracts your attention, which can make it difficult to stay on task and concentrate on more important things.
Studies have found that clutter actually competes for your attention, which can reduce your performance on important tasks and make you feel more stressed out. Removing your junk can help to drastically improve your concentration in Nassau County.
You’ll Feel More Inspired
You’ll feel more inspired when you aren’t surrounded by clutter. Why? – Because when there’s less junk surrounding you, your concentration will increase, and when you’re concentration is improved, you’ll feel more inspired to get things done. Take your desk, for example; if it’s piled high with clutter, you probably aren’t going to feel very inspired to get your work done. Remove that junk, and you’ll feel more stimulated.
You’ll Feel Happier
It’s hard to feel upbeat and happy when you have big piles of junk looming over you. Not only does it detract from the aesthetics of your space, but it also makes you feel like you don’t have your life in order; two things that are kind of big downers.
When you clear out the clutter, your self-esteem will improve, and so will your mood. You’ll feel happier about yourself and your surroundings, which can definitely make anyone feel better.
You’ll Sleep Better
If you’re tossing and turning throughout the night, the clutter in your house could be to blame.
In order to fall asleep – and stay asleep – you need to feel calm and relaxed. When your house is filled with clutter, it might be harder to fall asleep because you’re focusing on the mess and your stress levels are higher. If you want to get a more restful night of sleep, clearing out the junk might be the solution you’ve been looking for.
You’ll Save Time
Has this situation ever happened to you: You’re in a rush to get out of the door, but you can’t find your car keys amidst all of the paperwork, magazines, and other junk that’s cluttering up the table you tossed them on, so you end up spending a good five or 10 minutes tearing things apart to find them?
Even if that exact situation hasn’t happened to you, something similar probably has. Think of all the time you could save if you were able to open up your closet and immediately find the pair of shoes you wanted to wear, or you pulled out a drawer and could instantly put your finger on the paperwork you were looking for. By getting rid of the clutter that’s clogging up your home, you can save yourself a tremendous amount of time; and not to mention aggravation.
Clutter can make you feel tied down. It kind of feels like it controls your life and everything that you do. When you start detaching from those material possessions, you’ll start to experience a sense of freedom. Physically, you’ll be able to move more freely, and spiritually, you won’t feel like you are being controlled by the burden of inanimate objects.
Are you ready to declutter your home and your life? If so, let JunkRaps in Plainview, NY and Nassau County help you with hauling your clutter away so that you can take back control of your life. Call us today at 844-727-5865.
Plainview is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) located near the North Shore of Long Island in the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population of the CDP as of 2010 was 26,217. The Plainview post office has the ZIP code 11803.
Plainview’s origins date to 1648, when Robert Williams, a settler from Wales, bought land in the area. The land was considered desirable for farming because of a small pond named the Moscopas by local Native Americans, meaning “hole of dirt and water”. The remainder of the land in the area was purchased by Thomas Powell in 1695 as part of the Bethpage Purchase. The name “Mannatto Hill” had already appeared on the 1695 deed of the Bethpage Purchase, and the settlement came to be called “Manetto Hill”. Manitou was the Native American word either for “god” or for “spirit”.
The 1837 arrival of the Long Island Rail Road to nearby Hicksville brought a boom to local farming. In 1885, residents of Manetto Hill petitioned the United States Postal Service for a local post office, but were turned down because, according to several accounts, a similar name was already in use upstate. The hamlet was then named “Plainview”, for the view of the Hempstead Plains from the top of the Manetto Hills.
Plainview remained a farming community, famous for growing cucumbers for the huge Heinz pickle factories located in nearby Farmingdale and Hicksville. In the early 1900s blight destroyed the cucumber crop and many farmers switched to potatoes. After World War II, a potato blight combined with the desire of many returning GIs to leave New York City for the more rural Long Island, convinced many farmers to sell their property, leading to massive development in the area, giving rise to so-called suburban sprawl. Between 1950 and 1960, the hamlet grew from a population of 1,155 to more than 35,000. Most of the available land was developed during this period or otherwise designated as parkland. While overall development declined it did continue sporadically as smaller remaining parcels of land were also developed. In recent years, some of the few large remaining parcels have given way to gated communities, which are in contrast to most housing in the area. Some of these developments include “The Hamlet on Olde Oyster Bay” and “The Seasons at Plainview”, a residential community focused on over age 55 residents and first time home buyers.
